Windows 11: Use Steps Recorder to Document Bugs for IT Support

- 05.06.26 - ErcanOPAK

📸 Record Screen Steps Automatically

‘It doesn’t work’ isn’t helpful. Steps Recorder captures every click, keystroke, and screen. Perfect for IT tickets, bug reports, user training.

🔧 Start Steps Recorder

Start → Steps Recorder (or "psr")

Alternative: Win + R → psr → Enter

Buttons:
- Start Record (Ctrl + Shift + R)
- Stop Record (Ctrl + Shift + S)
- Add Comment (Ctrl + Shift + C) - for annotations

After stopping:
- Save to ZIP file (contains MHTML report)
- Share with IT support

📝 What It Captures

- Every mouse click (with coordinates)
- Every keystroke (typed text appears in log)
- Screenshots after each click
- Window titles
- Timestamps for each step
- Programs launched
- User comments (manual annotations)

Output format:
HTML report with numbered steps, screenshots, and details
Can be opened in any browser

✅ Use Cases
  • Bug reports: Show exact steps to reproduce
  • User training: Create step-by-step guides
  • QA testing: Document test case execution
  • IT support: End users record the problem
  • Compliance: Audit trail of actions

“User said ‘it crashed’. 3 hours couldn’t reproduce. Asked them to use Steps Recorder. Found exact sequence in 10 minutes. Steps Recorder saved our QA team.”
