Visual Studio: Use Find in Files to Search Across Entire Solution

🔍 Ctrl + Shift + F — Search Everything

Ctrl+F searches current file. Ctrl+Shift+F searches entire solution. Find references, TODO comments, API usage across all files.

đź”§ Find in Files

Ctrl + Shift + F → Open Find in Files

Search options:
- Current Document
- Current Project
- Entire Solution
- All Open Documents

Search types:
- Quick Find (Ctrl+F): Current file
- Find in Files (Ctrl+Shift+F): Multiple files
- Find Symbol (Ctrl+Shift+O): Search symbols

Replace in Files:
Ctrl + Shift + H

Regular expressions:
- ^ - Start of line
- $ - End of line
- \d - Digit
- \w - Word character
- (.*) - Capture group

Look in:
- Entire Solution
- Specific folders
- File types (*.cs, *.js, *.html)

  • Use regex for complex searches
  • Search only specific file types (*.cs)
  • Find all TODO comments: // TODO
  • Find all usages of deprecated methods
  • Replace in files for refactoring
