Visual Studio: Use Multi-Caret Editing to Change Multiple Lines at Once

- 14.02.26 - ErcanOPAK

Editing same text on multiple lines one by one is tedious. Multi-caret lets you edit all simultaneously.

Add Carets:
Hold Alt + Click where you want additional cursors

Or Select Multiple:
1. Select text
2. Press Ctrl+D repeatedly to select next occurrence
3. Type to change all at once

Example:

// Change all 'firstName' to 'name'
var firstName = user.firstName;
Console.WriteLine(firstName);
SaveUser(firstName);

// Select 'firstName', press Ctrl+D three times
// All instances selected, type 'name' → all change together!

Column Selection: Hold Alt+Shift + drag mouse to select rectangular block of text.
