Photoshop: Use Color Range to Select All Pixels of Same Color

🎨 Magic Wand on Steroids

Magic Wand selects contiguous pixels. Color Range selects ALL pixels matching a color, anywhere in image. Perfect for removing backgrounds, color correction.

📝 How to Use

Select → Color Range

Sampled Colors: (dropdown)
- Sampled Colors: Use eyedropper to pick color
- Reds / Yellows / Greens / Cyans / Blues / Magentas
- Highlights / Midtones / Shadows
- Skin Tones (detects skin color automatically!)

Fuzziness: 0-200 (how tolerant of similar colors)
Localized Color Clusters: Limits to nearby area

🎯 Advanced Tips

1. Use + eyedropper to add colors
2. Use - eyedropper to subtract colors
3. Selection Preview: Grayscale, Black Matte, White Matte, Quick Mask
4. Click "Selection" radio button to preview selection area
5. "Image" radio button to see original

Use cases:
- Remove green screen background (select green, invert)
- Change color of specific object (select color, adjust hue)
- Extract white background from product photos
- Create layer mask from color range

💡 Pro Tip

  • For skin retouching: Select → Color Range → Skin Tones → Refine Edge
  • Save selection as channel for reuse
  • Combine with Select and Mask for perfect edges
