Docker: Manage Networks with Docker Compose

- 07.07.26 - ErcanOPAK

🌐 Docker Networks with Compose

Containers need communication. Docker networks connect containers. Compose makes network management easy.

📝 Network Types

# Bridge (default)
- Containers on same host
- Internal network
- Customizable

# Host
- Uses host's network
- No isolation
- Best performance

# Overlay
- Swarm mode
- Across multiple hosts

# Macvlan
- Assign MAC addresses
- Direct network access

# None
- No network
- Complete isolation

🎯 Network Commands

# List networks
docker network ls

# Create network
docker network create my-network

# Inspect network
docker network inspect my-network

# Connect container
docker network connect my-network container-name

# Disconnect container
docker network disconnect my-network container-name

# Remove network
docker network rm my-network

# In Compose
version: '3.8'

    web:
        networks:
            - frontend
            - backend
    database:
        networks:
            - backend

networks:
    frontend:
        driver: bridge
    backend:
        driver: bridge

💡 Network Tips

  • Use custom networks for isolation
  • Containers communicate by service name
  • Use network aliases for DNS
  • External networks for cross-compose
  • Default network is bridge

“Docker networks connect containers. Compose makes it simple. Essential for microservices.”
