DATEADD Function in SQL

DATEADD(interval, number, date)

Parameter Values (interval, number, date)

Parameter Description
interval Required. The time/date part to return. Can be one of the following values:

  • year, yyyy, yy = Year
  • quarter, qq, q = Quarter
  • month, mm, m = month
  • dayofyear = Day of the year
  • day, dy, y = Day
  • week, ww, wk = Week
  • weekday, dw, w = Weekday
  • hour, hh = hour
  • minute, mi, n = Minute
  • second, ss, s = Second
  • millisecond, ms = Millisecond
number Required. The number of intervals to use
date Required. The date to which the interval should be added


Examples:

-- GETDATE(): 2018-06-14 11:53:38.350

SELECT DATEADD(year, 1, GETDATE()) AS DateAdd;
-- OUTPUT:
2019-06-14 11:48:14.240


SELECT DATEADD(week, 1, GETDATE()) AS DateAdd;
-- OUTPUT:
2018-06-21 11:52:56.263

SELECT DATEADD(month, 1, GETDATE()) AS DateAdd;
-- OUTPUT:
2018-07-14 11:54:22.617

SELECT DATEADD(day, 15, GETDATE()) AS DateAdd;
-- OUTPUT:
2018-06-29 11:55:06.413
